A surgeon cut off four of his fingers to cash in on a £1.4million insurance payout, a court has heard.
Dr Manfred Tauber claims he was cutting down a tree with his wife, who slipped and severed his fingers.
But insurance investigators found no traces of his DNA on the saw and say the cuts were too precise to have been caused by a chainsaw.
Tauber and his wife, from the eastern town of Zehdenick, each face up to ten years in prison if they are found guilty.
